I am trying to make all of our Christmas gifts this year, but if I have time I am thinking if I change a couple of things I could make another one of these, and turn him a little more Santa-ish and maybe make a Mrs. Clause or a reindeer.

I have 2 choices: wait out the health problems I’ve been having and work on this pattern more on a later date, or post it for free and have a rougher pattern written up, and just answer questions if people have them. This seems like the best choice. I’m here to help :)

Pumpkins!

Avery, James, and I had a great day yesterday.  We went to the Farmstand to get some pumpkins.  Right away Avery found this white gourd that she thought was super cute so we got that one.

We got some for her to draw on and some for us to carve.  After running some errands and getting some ice cream.  We went home and got to work.

We had a great time! Then I made the pumpkin seeds.  I just threw salt on some and then cinnamon, salt, and brown sugar, from something I saw on the internet on others.  The brown sugar one was terrible but the salted was great :)

My Experience with Anxiety as a Teen

Sitting in class as the teacher goes one by one down the rows of desks asking each person a question to the homework.  I'm sitting at my desk counting how many more students until it's my turn, how much time is left on the clock, hoping class will end before it is time for me to answer.  Since it was normally done in the beginning of class this wasn't usually the case.  As it gets closer and closer to my turn I am sweating, shaking, my heart is pounding out of my chest, and all I really want to do is get the hell out.

Having to read a report in front of my 10th grade Biology class, I feel like I am going to puke.  I read the 5-6 page report, trying to focus on the words to read. After I finish, so glad it is over, my teacher asks "Are you done?" I say yes.  "Good, now read it from the beginning.  You read it too fast and no one could understand you."

Never wanting to raise my hand in class because I don't want to be called on, then raising my hand because I realized thet usually called me because my hand was always down.

Not going to reward ceremonies because honestly whenever I went on a stage I felt like I would pass out.  Everyone wondered why I wanted to quit band so badly.  I'd be such a wreck I'd forget how to read the notes.

They did try to put me on anxiety medication and I practically had a nervous breakdown due to the reaction I had from them.  That didn't work.  The only time and place I felt comfortable was downstairs in the art rooms.  That is truly the only place I felt I could breath, until I went home.

Teachers thought I didn't care, or wasn't trying.  I felt like a huge weirdo, no one else I knew felt this way, or talked about it if they did.  I tried to hide it as much as I could.  I didn't want to give anyone reason to give me crap for it.  I did have one teacher who noticed and had me go see the school counselor, who showed me a picture of a welcome mat with a face on it and told me it was Patsy Passive and that was who I was.  They had good intentions but that didn't really help any.

So from Preschool to 12th grade  I was pretty much a nervous wreck until summer.  I loved summer vacation.  I was also the one who always walked to the teachers desk or stayed after class to ask something because I didn't want anyone to hear me.

It took me until my late 20's to even think of going to college because I knew what hell it was for me in school before.  I wish I went earlier now, but what can you do.

I am 30 years old and still struggle with anxiety.  My anxiety keeps me from driving.  I have tried many MANY meds for anxiety after what happened in high school.  I was reluctant, and rightfully so.  After each med made me feel screwy they just kept adding more.  It was terrible and I lost many friends because they didn't realize it was a bad reaction to medicine that was making me act the way I was.  I stopped all but Zoloft which helps a little but I still have anxiety.

Funny thing about having anxiety:  you know it's not a normal reaction to have to whatever situation you are having anxiety about. You can't help it no matter how much you want to, or how silly you know it is. I am not writing this for sympathy. All I want from this is for a teacher to maybe notice the signs and maybe realize that it might not be a lazy student but a anxious person, or for a student to know that they are not alone feeling the way they do.

2/14/12

I have been working in my craft space, and I honestly don't know how I have been working without it.   I have all my stuff in one place and I am so much more organized.  I have 5 orders right now so having a spot to work in is great.  I just finished a Coraline doll, and I am working on a painting for someone.  Once I get the yarn I ordered, I need to start on 2 cats, a cactus, and a pattern for the Funky Punky Crochetlien I made.  I am so happy to have orders coming in :)

A Place to Call My Own

I have my little art area in the house now!  Having all my stuff in one place is fantastic.

I'm not sure where the desk was from (was my sister's), but the white shelves and navy blue fabric bins, cork/dry erase board, and the shoe storage I use to hold my yarn were all from Target.  I just need to get myself a comfy chair.

Very Excited

James decided to clear out the little dining nook we have in our house, and I get to turn part of it into my craft space.  Right now the area is a disaster.  I bought everything I think I'll need storage wise and my sister has a wooden desk she doesn't use and she gave me that.  I got the book advance, so I put pretty much all of it in savings (WE NEED TO GET OUT OF THIS HOUSE!) and I kept a little to make my space :)  My art stuff is all over the house and I am home most of the time.  I can't wait :D

Avery's 2nd Birthday Party

Avery's birthday didn't exactly go as planned this year.  My sisters and I made snacks and decorated, I expected about 20 people. Unfortunately the snow kept everyone away (It was upsetting). and there was drama involving James' car.  I couldn't change the date because I have tons of thing to do the next couple of weekends.  So Avery's party ended up being me, my Mom, 2 sisters, and Nan. James came later because he ended up having to go in for work.  We made the best of it, and Avery had fun which in the end is all that matters.

You know my littke sister did her hair when she has a side ponytail.

Hoping to be Published!

I have been e-mailing back and forth with Leisure arts for a few weeks now and they seem interested in working with me.  This would make all the years of working on crafts and putting everything I have into everything I make totally worth it.  I have been crocheting, and painting for years.  I did stained glass, jewelry making and cake decorating for awhile.  I haven't really had a chance to paint since Avery has been born, when I start a painting I don't like to stop until it is done.  Crochet has been my main focus and I like that I can still draw when sketching out ideas.  I really hope this works out, it means so much.

Avery and the Easter Bunny

Avery went to go see the Easter Bunny yesterday and she was pretty nervous at first but she wasn't too bad.  He thought he would try to make her smile by covering her face with his giant paw to play peek-a-boo... it backfired.
